Weather and Climate of Coimbatore

The weather is one of the many things Coimbatore City is know for -- it has some the best weather to in all of India.  The moderate temperatures rage from 39 degrees Celsius in the summer to 15 degrees Celsius in the winter months.  The elevation of the city is 410 meters above sea level contributes to these moderate temperatures. Thanks to the air that moves through the Palghat gap from Kerala, there is often a genital breeze.  
            
The city receives the most rainfall during the southwest and northeast monsoon seasons with an average of 600mm of rain each year.  Depsite the rainfall that is able to support the people and the agricultural industry, there are some areas that are prone to drought.  The city is located in the rain shadow region of the western ghats, causing the areas to receive only part of the southwest monsoon.  
                                            
There are eight rivers that run through Coimbatore, helping to create a rich ecological community.   The landscape varies, and includes rich forests, and rolling hills.  With these type of climate there are many ways  to make the most of the weather.  Tourists and locals alike can enjoy the popular motor sport circuit that has developed in the area.  The weather allows great opportunity for participation in outdoors sports such as golf.  
                                             
The Coimbatore Golf Club is an 18-hold course that often hosts national tournaments. There are also many tennis courts through the city.  The rainy season is an excellent time to  go to one of the many cinemas, that are popping up all over the city.
