If you want it, you can find it in Coimbatore.  There is a major market for precious metal work, jewelry, fine fabrics.  Shopping areas are divided by product to make shopping easier. Among some of the fabrics you will find are high quality silks and chiffon made in vivid colors.

You can also visit the Openakara Market.  There are many craftspeople working through these markets creating beautiful pieces of jewelry.  In addition to the jewelry that can be found on Openakara Street, there are a variety  of other goods, such as local artwork, antiques, and printed textiles.  On 100 Feet Road is The Sree Collection, a popular shopping location in Coimbatore. If a price seems to good to be true for an item -- especially one of gems and precious metals -- it probably is.  Most often, you are getting what you pay for.  

It is recommend that tourist stick to the major shopping areas.  It is one of the best places to buy traditional south Indian dresses.  Other popular shopping areas in the city are: Raja Street, Ranga Gowder Street, Co-optex, TANSI Sales Centre, and Khadikrafts.
